Inspiration and Creative Innovation

Our story began when two people, inspired by the land and one another, took the first steps to realize their vision: creating and sharing finely crafted spirits that evoke a strong sense of place and embody bold culinary artistry. Starting from scratch, Jason and Alayne MacIsaac gradually built their first distillery in their garage at home in Shirley, B.C., a humble Southern Vancouver Island town whose original name was Sheringham.

Accessible Friendly Business

Sheringham Distillery is located in a newly built facility with a tasting room inside, with windows that showcase the distillation equipment. The building is at ground level, so no stairs, but the front door is a manual open/close, so unfortunately not automatic with a push plate. There is plenty of convenient parking right at the front of the distillery. There is an accessible bathroom located in the showroom. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating.

There are two designated accessible parking stalls at the picnic area and visitors center. The trail from the parking to the picnic area is made of hard-packed crushed gravel and is relatively simple to navigate. There is an accessible washroom at the picnic area and a large, covered concrete pad to set up a cookout. Care must be taken further down the trail, towards the stream and the Nature House, as some tree roots, small puddles and at-times deeper gravel, can make for a slightly bumpy ride, but it’s worth it! On your way to the Nature House there are also a couple of bridges with decking made of wood, which are slightly elevated (2 or 3cm). My small mobility scooter was able to cross them, but some devices may find it challenging. There are steps up to the Nature House, but also a ramp at the side, which works for wheeled devices. Once inside the Nature House, the surface is flat and the exhibits and bookstore/gift shop are easily accessed. The staff are very friendly and well-informed. There’s a wildlife viewing platform located at the edge of the estuary, which is accessible and shouldn’t be missed!
